Sharalyn Orbaugh is Professor of modern Japanese literature and popular culture at the University of British Columbia. In addition to articles on anomalous embodiment in modern science fiction, and gender and sexuality in postwar anime, she has published extensively on the politics of cultural production in Japan’s Fifteen Year War (1931-45) and the subsequent Allied Occupation (1945-52). Her most recent book is Propaganda Performed: Kamishibai in Japan’s Fifteen Year War (Brill, 2015).
