Andrew McLaren will receive his PhD in Religion at Columbia University in June 2021. He came to Columbia in 2014 after earning his undergraduate degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies from Indiana University in Bloomington. In his current research, he examines the social function of history writing and ethics in Arabic and Persian in Islamic society during the eleventh and twelfth centuries. He has also published on the development of dialectical theology in Baghdad during the tenth century.
